EAST YORKSHIRE HERB GROUP

Do any of you live in East Yorkshire? I have recently set up an informal and fun group for anyone interested in herbs – that includes growing them, cooking with them, learning about their medicinal uses, making lotions & potions and anything else that takes your fancy. We’ll also have the opportunity to go on seasonal herb identification walks and take part in other events. We currently meet every two months, on the last Wednesday of the month. Each meeting costs £2 per person to cover the cost of the venue, refreshments, etc. Any additional money raised will be used to pay for guest speakers in future. My Blog

I've just started a blog! Everyone else seems to be doing it, so I thought I'd better get on board. PLEASE visit and post your thoughts, comments and ideas and that way I'll maybe learn how to use the damn thing - I'm not getting any younger you know! It's called 'Herbal Reflections'.  No particular rules other than keep it clean, be nice, and no overt advertising. You should continue to contact me at my email address (see bottom of page) if you have an urgent question as I won't be logging in (or should that be 'blogging in'?) on a daily basis.

Worried about your pet's health? I receive quite a few emails from people seeking advice on natural remedies for their pets. Whilst I would like to be able to help I must stress that I have no veterinary qualifications whatsoever and am aware that certain food/herbs that are perfectly safe for humans to take may cause an animal harm. Dosage is also difficult to calculate. However, Chris Day, an experienced holistic vet in Oxfordshire, has a very informative website and may well be able to answer your questions - click here. If you have a dog, you might be interested in 'Herbal Medicine for Dogs' by Mary Boughton, available from the Purple Sage shop.

Need to Unwind?

Life seems to get ever more hectic and holidays do too.  It's all too easy to spend your time rushing from place to place sightseeing, shopping and eating. The result is that you're glad to get back to work for a rest!  Now is the time to try a different approach. This is your opportunity to step off the treadmill for one or perhaps even two weeks and experience a slower more restful pace of life.  Spanish Reflections are offering a unique opportunity to recharge your physical and spiritual batteries in the natural beauty of Los Cerezos on the edge of the Sierra de Cazorla National Park in Spain.  From mid-May to early June we are running four holistic breaks where you can combine rest and relaxation with a gentle opportunity to learn more about taking care of yourself.  'Los Cerezos' is spectacularly situated just below rugged mountain peaks in the Rio Cerezuelo Valley, nestling high above the pretty and historic town of Cazorla. 'Los Cerezos' consists of three cottages, each decorated in the traditional local rustic style. The rooms are comfortable and each cottage has its own facilities.

The property is set in a large garden, amongst hundreds of fruit and ornamental trees whose leaves provide vivid splashes of colour, and where the air is filled with the scent of Rosemary, Thyme and Lavender. Besides its rich vegetation and magnificent flowers the garden features many secluded corners especially designed for quiet thought and contemplation, whilst the swimming pool overlooks the magnificent mountains, offering one of the best views in Cazorla.  Our breaks at Los Cerezos are on a full board basis and the price you pay also includes interactive workshop sessions and a variety of other optional activities. Each week there will be a different theme and you are free to book for as many weeks as you like. In addition to the workshop sessions there will be plenty of time to relax, swim, chat to fellow participants, walk in the National Park or visit the delightful village of Cazorla and the surrounding area.
